City Zoning Ordinance

The City Zoning Ordinance restricts the number of individuals who can reside in a single-family housing unit who are not family to, “not more than three unrelated persons or a combination of related and unrelated persons.” In addition, housing arrangements that includes separate leases or rental agreements, locking mechanisms on individual bedroom doors or common areas not being available on an equal or common basis to all occupants of the unit are not permitted. The City’s policy is to inspect dwelling places with more than three unrelated occupants when there are complaints. We are providing this information to encourage all students to not enter into a lease that violates any City ordinance or law.

Moving Out Soon?! Pass It Forward

The Richmond Clean City Commission is working with VCU and other local partners to help VCU students reduce the amount of waste that is thrown out during move out time.  Before you throw something out, see if you can donate it for reuse at a local thrift store, recycle it, or compost it.  Go to our Clean City Commission Link Tree for information on how you can save landfill space by keeping useful materials out.
